Intrathecal phenol injection was done on 30 years old vegetative female with intractable spasticity in extremities using 10 ml of 5% aqueous phenol solution at L3-L4 level.

Immediate release of the spasticity in lower extremities was obtained. After this procedure patient was kept in 60 degree upright position in one hour because the specific gravity of the phenol solution was greater(0.026) than that of her spinal fluid(1.006).

No complication was observed up to 24 hours. Increasing denervation potentials were obtained in muscles of lower extremities sampled from 20days to 40days.
