Abstract

cardiac Rehabilitation is defined as the process by which patients with cardiac disease are restored to their optimal physical. medical, psychosocial, emotional, vocational, and economic status. Current issues and future of cardiac Rehabilitation program are discussed with emphasis on it's need, effectiveness, cost-benefit, motivation and compliance, team approach and quality assurance, etc.

Mortality rate of coronary artery disease and coronary risk, factors in Korea have not been scientifically studied yet. However a recent report from Korean statistics Administration(Tong-Kye chung) estimated six-folds increase of mortality of coronary artery disease in Korea during 1983-1993. Systematic and longitudinal studies of coronary risk factors in Korea along with mortality rates are critical to determine the need of cardiac rehabilitation program and its direction.

The importance of interdisciplinary team apporach in cardiac rehabilitation program is emphasized.
